Korean Music Ensemble HONA is a group of young musicians who are making new music that combines both Korean traditional music with a contemporary attitude and aesthetic. All the members of HONA have studied Korean traditional music (Gugak) and each of them is an excellent solo player in his/her own right. Not satisfied with just playing what they had learned in school, they started making their own music under the name of HONA. Inspired by Korea’s shamanistic music, HONA incorporates free improvisation in their performances and frequently collaborate with other artists to create a passionate, immersive music theater that includes narrative, dance and visual images. Their music is visceral and emotional and draws upon their own experiences and emotions to express their spiritual journey through music.
